Now many of us know, have listened and maybe still listen to the song “Grenade” by Bruno Mars the lyrics, as some would say, are just “breath taking”.

It just amazes me how someone would go all those extremes for someone they love but are still not appreciated in the end. How sad though! I do not know much about grenades but from my little research , they come in different shapes, sizes and the use also differs. But one thing is once it’s thrown, there’s an explosion. Now imagine having to put your life on the line to catch something that might cost you your life. Isn’t it just amazing what people can do for those they love or claim to love. Now let’s see a Grenade from a different perspective. It can be any other thing that we’d risk doing for people in our lives not knowing what the outcome will be. Let’s quickly explore the Book of Numbers Chapter 25. Here we learn about how God was angered when the Israelite men began to indulge themselves in sexual immorality with the Moabite women and idol worshipping. The Lord also instructed Moses to kill the people who had yoked themselves to worshipping Baal. Now the highlight of it all is in verse 6. An Israelite man brought into the camp ( as they were camping in Shittim) a Midianite woman right before the eyes of Moses and the whole assembly of Israel as they were weeping at the entrance of the tent meeting as there was a plague in the land. Now this is insanity and a taboo even in this present day. Imagine it was a funeral and someone flaunts and parades his girlfriend to the funeral house, bypassing the elders just to go have sex with her. Unimaginable! Now Phinehas, one of the priests son who couldn’t stand what he had seen followed them to their tent, drove his spear into both of them running through to the woman’s stomach and guess what?

The plague ceased!

Now that’s someone “catching a grenade for his people, for God.” Let’s note that Phinehas didn’t wait to consult Moses whether or not he should take action. He didn’t go and lock himself in a prayer closet to pray for them or pray about the situation. He didn’t go asking , shouting or gathering the elders or friends to discuss what he had seen and what can be done. He just acted!

That’s what we’re being called to do! A generation of believers who cannot stand seeing sin. Cannot be comfortable where sin is. Cannot tolerate sin. A generation that is allergic to sin! That spear would have turned around and killed phinehas instead, I mean they were two and he was just alone. They could have over powered him and stabbed him instead but when you know where you stand and who stands with you, you’ll not think of any other thing but that which pleases the Father.

I mean Jesus did the same and even more. Bore the pain and shame for you and I. He did more than catch a grenade for you and I and yet it’s so hard for us to correct the people around us when they’re not doing the right things. Scripture warns us; ⁃ JAMES 4:17 Therefore, whoever knows the right thing to do, yet fails to do it, is guilty of sin.

⁃ MATTHEW 18:15-17 If your brother or sistersins go and point out their fault, just between the two of you. If they listen to you, you have won them over. But if they will not listen, take one or two others along, so that ‘every matter may be established by the testimony of two or three witnesses. If they still refuse to listen, tell it to the church; and if they refuse to listen even to the church, treat them as you would a pagan or a tax collector.

Now this might not be the easiest thing to do as there some factors that one needs to consider before approaching anybody about anything concerning them, their lifestyle e.t.c because not everybody will see correction as a form of love but “If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you (JAMES 1:5).

We are fully loaded, armed and shielded to catch some grenades for what we believe in or is it a spear that you need like Phinehas, it’s all in the WORD of God! Take it up dear believe! Have a spirit like that of phinehas. Have a “grenade catching zeal” and just go all in. Gods got you!!!!
